Enbridge discovers historical contamination near Wawanesa, MB

The NEB issued a letter (see link below) to Enbridge Pipelines Inc. today requesting information about the recent discovery of historical hydrocarbon contamination of soil during the construction of the Alberta Clipper pipeline near the crossing of Black Creek (near Wawanesa, Manitoba). It will be interesting to see the report Enbridge makes to the Board on its response to the discovery. I'll keep you posted.

  1. Since this historical hydrocarbon contamination was only discovered by new construction, this certainly doesn't reassure landowners that there are not many other contaminated locations laying undetected, underground, and at the landowners' risk should any pipelines be abandonned in place. Landowners should not be put at any risk by any abandonned pipe. Pipeline companies need to remove all abandonned pipes from the ground.

  2. As I said, it will be extremely interesting to see exactly how Enbridge responded to this discovery, which was made last September.

  3. I personally would have to question that it was only found out when Alberta Clipper went thru. What about LSr and even Terrace Expansion in 1998. Smells of a coverup to me.
