New pipeline construction occurs at a depth of .6 meters according to CSA Standard Z662-2007 to ensure safety. If depth of cover is maintained at .6 meters, then crossing should be safe over all pipes. Pipeline companies are using old, thinning, and corroding pipe and want landowners to bear the costs of this worn out infrastructure. Landowners are furious and the NEB is catching a black eye over this one. Removal and replacement of outdated and worn out assets is done in every industry.
